Chris Murray

I've drawn pictures as long as I can remember. In Grade 2, Mrs Knack eventually asked if I had anything other than my pictures to bring for Show & Tell. These days I'm living in Melbourne and working as an illustrator... and I still like showing people my pictures. Sorry Mrs Knack. In the 90s I completed a bachelor degree in Visual Arts at James Cook University, majoring in illustration. I love the process of figuring out how to summarise a narrative with a single image - particularly when the subject is satirical, fantastical, or horrific. I often mix traditional, hand-made content with a bit of digital colouring or tweaking. I'm partial to pencils and brushed acrylics, but have happily worked with airbrush, oils, pastels, spray cans, charcoal, ballpoint - whatever seems right for the job. In 2015 Illustrators Australia gave me a silver award for my beer label illustration, The Cavalier Catfish, for which I'm entirely chuffed.
