Julia Weston

Julia Weston is an illustrator and art educator with a career spanning children’s publishing, editorial illustration and art education. Her illustration career began with a commission for BBC Good Food magazine and has included work for Prima, Country Living, Wine Magazine and Cambridge University Press.

After moving to Japan in 1996, Julia was represented by Grade One and Asterisk Illustration Agencies. She illustrated for NOVA Publishing and created ABC Bridge, a monthly cartoon series for the Nagasaki Newspaper designed to help young children learn English.

Now based in Australia, Julia continues to illustrate children’s books, including the Trudie Cooper Super Foodie trilogy and Rose Grows Veggies. Her artwork combines pencil drawing underlay with layered watercolour washes. She uses lines as a scaffold, building structure and details before adding colour. She enjoys building up washes to create interesting colours, textures and depth.

Julia loves animals, especially elephants, and finds inspiration in the natural world, particularly from sketching from life. She loves collaborating with others, sharing ideas and exploring how different perspectives can shape and enrich a creative project.

Commissions welcome.
